Terms of service

The rules for using Kaptimus: what it does, what its numbers are and are not, who may see an account, what it costs, and what we promise.
The agreement
Kaptimus is run by the maker of Kaptimus, in India. By signing in to Kaptimus, or by installing the Kaptimus GitHub App, you agree to these terms. If you do that for an organization, you are saying that you are allowed to.
These terms are written in plain words on purpose. The plain words are the terms — there is no second, longer version behind them.
What Kaptimus does
Kaptimus reads the GitHub Actions runs of the GitHub accounts you choose to monitor and works out what each run, job, workflow and repository costs, using the per-minute prices GitHub publishes. It shows those numbers to the people GitHub says may see that account. That is all it does.
The numbers are not your GitHub bill
Kaptimus works out a cost for every job from GitHub's published rates. Your GitHub invoice is worked out by GitHub, and the two can differ. In particular:
- the free minutes included in your GitHub plan are not taken off, so Kaptimus can show a cost for minutes GitHub did not charge you for;
- a job that ran on a machine Kaptimus could not price is shown without a price, and says so;
- GitHub can change its prices, and GitHub's own bill is the one that counts.
Use the numbers to see where your minutes go and to charge costs back inside your company. Do not use them as your invoice. We do not promise that they match it.
Your GitHub account and who may see it
- You install the Kaptimus App on GitHub yourself, and you can uninstall it at any time. Installing is free.
- GitHub decides who may see an account in Kaptimus. An account's owners see it and choose what is monitored. CI/CD Admins see the whole account, view only. Admins of some repositories see only those repositories, view only. Everyone else sees nothing.
- Kaptimus checks those roles with GitHub when someone changes what is monitored, and again every night. A person who loses a role on GitHub can still view, never change, until that night's check.
- You are responsible for who holds those roles on GitHub, and for keeping your own GitHub sign-in safe.
Prices and payment
Today there is nothing to pay. Kaptimus is in early access, and every account is free. The plans on the home page show what Kaptimus will cost; they cannot be bought yet.
When paid plans start, the price, what it covers, when you are charged and how to cancel will be written on this page and shown to you before you pay. No money is ever taken without your clear yes. The rules for refunds will be written here at the same time.
What you may not do
- try to see the costs of a GitHub account GitHub does not let you see;
- try to break into Kaptimus, or to read or change data that is not yours;
- send Kaptimus so many requests that it cannot serve other people;
- sell or rent access to Kaptimus to others as if it were your own service;
- use Kaptimus for anything that breaks the law.
What we promise, and what we do not
We work carefully, and we check the numbers against GitHub's own reports. Still, Kaptimus is new. During early access it is offered as it is:
- it can be down, slow, or wrong, and we may change it or stop it;
- we are not responsible for decisions you make from its numbers, or for money you lose because of them;
- if we ever owe you anything under these terms, it is at most what you paid us in the 12 months before — today, that is nothing.
Where the law gives you rights that these words cannot take away, those rights stay.
Your information
What Kaptimus keeps, where, for how long, and what you can ask us to do with it is on the Privacy policy page. It is part of these terms.
Ending
- You can stop at any time: uninstall the App from your GitHub account, and take back the sign-in on GitHub. Kaptimus stops reading at once.
- We can close an account that breaks these terms, or stop Kaptimus altogether. If we stop it, we will say so on the site first.
- What happens to the data afterwards is on the Privacy policy page.
Changes to these terms
When these terms change, the date at the top changes with it. If a change matters — a price, a new rule — we will say so on the site before it takes effect. Using Kaptimus after that means you accept the new terms.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of India. If we have a disagreement, we will first try to settle it by talking. Write to us.
